She is 26 years old and has one son. I mostly talked to her about awareness and always knowing how the internet is being used in her home. We discussed placing the computers in high traffic areas with the screen pointing outwards so that she would always be able to see what is going on. I also talked to her about teaching her son about how to be safe on the internet, what to do if something inappropriate comes up or if someone tries to start talking to him. We had a really good discussion, and I think it helped her to be more aware of the good and the dangers of the internet. I shared with her the following website: http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/family/net_safety.html which i think will be helpful to her in the future. It was a valuable conversation for both of us.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-1895638505213814362009-04-13T12:47:00.000-07:002009-04-13T12:53:51.001-07:00Internet Safety Readings1. What article did you choose to read for your fourth article? I choose to read "I have a Question" from the March 2001 Ensign. This article addressed how we can access and use the good on the internet while still protecting ourselves and our families from the bad material that is so prevalent. <br /><br /> 2. What were the most important things you learned from the readings? The most important thing that I learned is to make good choices about the media that you use. There are so many good options that we need to make sure that we are choosing from these things and not from the inappropriate material.<br /><br /> 3. How will what you have read influence your actions as a parent and/or teacher of children and youth? The things that I have read will have a big influence on my actions as a parent and a teacher. I think the biggest thing that I will do aside from teaching the students about safety is just to be aware and observe what they are doing on the internet. I will make sure that I know at all times what they are using the internet for and what they are doing.<br /><br /> 4. How can you use what you have learned from the reading to have a positive influence on family and friends? I can use this information and have a positive influence by sharing with my family what I have learned, and sharing with them the articles that I read so that they can have a greater understanding of the importance of internet and media safety.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-63064703236051963742009-04-13T11:48:00.000-07:002009-04-13T11:49:29.472-07:00Using Technology in the ClassroomFrom looking at other presentations I have started to realize how many different ways there are to incorporate technology into teaching!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-18470495348292741622009-04-13T11:39:00.001-07:002009-04-13T11:40:50.472-07:00Technology Lesson PowerPoint<div style="width:425px;text-align:left" id="__ss_1282196"><a style="font:14px Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif;display:block;margin:12px 0 3px 0;text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/chelseanicole/measuring-to-the-nearest?type=presentation" title="Measuring To The Nearest">Measuring To The Nearest</a><object style="margin:0px" width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://static.slidesharecdn.com/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=measuringtothenearest-090413133623-phpapp01&stripped_title=measuring-to-the-nearest" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://static.slidesharecdn.com/swf/ssplayer2.swf?doc=measuringtothenearest-090413133623-phpapp01&stripped_title=measuring-to-the-nearest" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="355"></embed></object><div style="font-size:11px;font-family:tahoma,arial;height:26px;padding-top:2px;">View more <a style="text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/">presentations</a> from <a style="text-decoration:underline;" href="http://www.slideshare.net/chelseanicole">chelseanicole</a>.</div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-66997038344734079792009-03-30T16:57:00.000-07:002009-03-30T17:01:26.951-07:00Technology LessonThis past week I was able to use technology in many of my lessons. One lesson that I thought worked really well was a math lesson on mesauring to the nearest inch. I created a template filled with lots of different objects that needed to be measured. We used our promethean board to project the document and then used a electronic ruler to measure each of the objects. Each of the students were able to be involved in using the board and by the end of the lesson all of the students understood how to measure to the nearest inch. It was a really great lesson that would have been difficult to teach to a whole class at once if we didn't have the technology.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-39475048973662068982009-03-23T20:46:00.000-07:002009-03-23T20:51:18.696-07:00Tech-Enhanced Lesson IdeaThere are so many ways to use technology to enhance lessons. One idea I have is for a math lesson on being able to find fractions of a group. First I will set up worksheets on the promethean board. The students will be given pictures as well as the fraction written in notation form. Students will work in partners to decide which picture matches which fraction notation. Then a student will be able to come up to the board and drag the image and the notation into the appropriate columns. During independent practice time each of the students will use a macbook to complete a series of practice problems where they will be required to again find or create the correct image for each fraction notation. I think this is a good way to integrate technology because the students are actively participating and their learning is expanded and enhanced through the use of the technology.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-50092701520616256082009-03-16T19:36:00.000-07:002009-03-16T19:41:06.861-07:00Technology InventoryWhile I was doing this assignment it surprised me to see how much technology is available in classrooms. Technology is integrated into the classroom constantly. The students in my class constantly work on their laptops and the teacher integrates the promethean board into essentially every lesson she teaches. It is interesting to see and it has really showed me how much technology helps to get students interested and involved in the class. Although I did see a lot of positive things I also noticed that there is a lot of technology that is available that is not being used. I hope that I will find more effective ways to integrate some of the extra technology the school has into my classroom.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-19737802509954603302009-03-03T16:55:00.000-08:002009-03-03T16:59:10.144-08:00Virtual Tour<a href="http://sites.google.com/site/chelseanicole88/chelsea-s-files">http://sites.google.com/site/chelseanicole88/chelsea-s-files</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-33055100451492686492009-02-26T16:06:00.000-08:002009-02-26T16:08:54.743-08:00Virtual Tour Plan<table class="MsoNormalTable" style="border: medium none ; border-collapse: collapse;" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr style=""> <td style="border: 1pt solid black; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 75.25pt;" valign="top" width="100"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;" align="center"><b style=""><span style="">Location<o:p></o:p></span></b></p> </td> <td style="border-style: solid solid solid none; border-color: black black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: 1pt 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 308.15pt;" valign="top" width="411"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;" align="center"><b style=""><span style="">Activity<o:p></o:p></span></b></p> </td> <td style="border-style: solid solid solid none; border-color: black black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: 1pt 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 59.4pt;" valign="top" width="79"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;" align="center"><b style=""><span style="">Content<o:p></o:p></span></b></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 75.25pt;" valign="top" width="100"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Bunker Hill<span style=""> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 308.15pt;" valign="top" width="411"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">MPH activity<span style=""> </span>(Math)<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 59.4pt;" valign="top" width="79"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Terrain<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 75.25pt;" valign="top" width="100"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">The Battle of Lexington and Concord <o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 308.15pt;" valign="top" width="411"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Journal Entry: if you were a minute-man would you go.<span style=""> </span>(Literacy)<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 59.4pt;" valign="top" width="79"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Pic <o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 75.25pt;" valign="top" width="100"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Battle of Saratoga <o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; border-color: -moz-use-text-color black black -moz-use-text-color; border-width: medium 1pt 1pt medium; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 308.15pt;" valign="top" width="411"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">Go to this website: http://www.mrnussbaum.com/amflash.htm Go to this web site and click on the interactive battles. As the students watch and participate in the tour of the major battle locations of the Revolutionary war they will come across lots of new information, students will be required to analyze what they are learning and apply it in various forms such as journal entries and short stories. These activities are a good way to get students to be actively engaged in the learning process; while some things will be directly taught the students will also be required to search out and discover some things on their own. As the students complete the tour and work on the activities at each site, they will also fill in their own timeline of the key events/battles that occurred during the war. This pedagogy works well with the content as the students will be working actively to learn about each of the battles and then they will be able to meet the core standard by creating their own timeline.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;"><o:p></o:p>Technology: <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;"><span style=""> </span>We will be using Google Earth to create and present a tour of the locations of the main battles of the Revolutionary War. This technology works well for the lesson being taught as it allows the students to explore the different locations without having to actually go there. Students will be able to visualize what it is like at each of these locations as well as get an idea of where each battle location is in relation to the others. This also works well with the content as the battle locations will be visited in chronological order during the tour. <span style=""> </span></span></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-80286773243235846132009-02-13T09:06:00.000-08:002009-02-13T09:08:19.934-08:00Digital Story<embed src="http://www.teachertube.com/skin-p/mediaplayer.swf" width="425" height="350" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" menu="false" flashvars="height=350&width=425&file=http://www.teachertube.com/flvideo2/80709.flv&image=http://www.teachertube.com/thumb/80709.jpg&location=http://www.teachertube.com/skin-p/mediaplayer.swf&logo=http://www.teachertube.com/images/greylogo.swf&searchlink=http://teachertube.com/search_result.php%3Fsearch_id%3D&frontcolor=0xffffff&backcolor=0x000000&lightcolor=0xFF0000&screencolor=0xffffff&autostart=false&volume=80&overstretch=fit&link=http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=98c23dab1659c0e702f6&linkfromdisplay=true&recommendations=http://www.teachertube.com/embedplaylist.php?chid=55"></embed>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-32965868746397834642009-02-09T13:43:00.000-08:002009-02-09T14:01:25.019-08:00Storyboard<table class="MsoNormalTable" style="border: medium none ; border-collapse: collapse;" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr style=""> <td style="border: 1pt solid black; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Storyboard: Witches in the Graveyard<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: solid solid solid none; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Chelsea Hallam<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;" align="center"><span style="">Scene<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;" align="center"><span style="">Script<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Title Page: Picture of witches with tombstones around.<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Witches in the Graveyard Illustrated by: Chelsea Hallam<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="border-style: none solid solid; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Witches sitting in the graveyard<o:p></o:p></span></p> </td> <td style="border-style: none solid solid none; padding: 0in 5.4pt; width: 239.4pt;" valign="top" width="319"> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Witches in the graveyard sat. I chose to do a teacher centered project where the students would view the media but it could easily be altered so that the students were creating and presenting their own work.<br /><br />Pedagogy: I chose to do a poetry interpretation, this is a good way to help students develop language. They are able to hear the poem, hear inflection, and see visual interpretations of what is being said.<br /><br />Technology: This project will be using PhotoStory. This is a free program that allows you to create movies. This is a great resource as it can be used by both teachers and students. It would allow students to create their own project interpreting poetry or any other kind of text or subject material.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-64682032117652049222009-02-02T10:06:00.000-08:002009-02-09T13:45:17.274-08:00TPACK Analysis<!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal">Content: The content that this lesson focuses on is the moon and its phases (6th grade science standard 1: describing the changes in the appearance of the moon over a one month period). I think this is a great tool to use as it allows the students to observe the actual appearance of the moon each day during class. The students don’t have to go outside at night, which may be impossible for some, it is a simple task that only takes a few minutes but allows the students to discover so much. This technology is great for the content and pedagogy. It allows students to meet the standard set out in the Utah state core and it allows them to do it on their own through observation, discovery. </o:p></p> <!--EndFragment-->Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-89635039020421130752009-02-02T09:42:00.000-08:002009-02-02T10:28:39.607-08:00The Tech Savvy Teacher<p class="MsoNormal">Welcome to the Tech Savvy Teacher! Technology is one of the best resources we have in the classroom, knowing how and when to use it is essential. This week in class we began working on the 6th grade science standard 1 objective 1 which entails describing the changes in the appearance of the moon during a month. To allow the students to observe these changes during school we will be using Google Earth. We will be able to observe the moon during each day of the 28-day cycle and measure the change each day.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>Before beginning this project I first described the length of the cycle and introduced each of the phases of the moon (waxing crescent, 1st quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent). Once students have a basic understanding of each of the phases it is time to use Google Earth. Students can complete this project either in groups or individually.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>On the first day have the students open Google Earth select the planet icon to switch from earth to sky. Once they have selected “Sky” search for the Moon. </o:p></p><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ6j1wn344Jv4KHAXonTohedL1VIMm_UBoVjo3XdsoTGsqimTtHj80J1d1Y2rr9o3ofma-MhZ2O69aDr6G1qwiKOCXqNRgh9Hi0aYObDFcif_g2JSY10XhwgL1aW3lJPIq9CFNFap8U30/s200/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298258603676065186" /><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div style="text-align: left;">Above: The beginning screen upon opening the program.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Below: Select the planet icon and search for the Moon.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO1sWgbWjbcilCQehlCfkF6aWKslrDxem5d66ehkcA-ikGQVeXx7crSQye_jJiASa_ndhVZOXPWkW0ThXRj16hHp4yMBwp5qTdhBNW64lDYqQ1ldlp3469DLkvly4szgeA9FoprA1-dLM/s200/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298261048819919858" /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">To zoom in on the moon use the “+ and –“ bar on the right side of the screen. Each day of the cycle the students will observe the appearance of the moon and then use the ruler tool to measure how much of the moon is visible that day. To do this, select the ruler icon at the top of the screen, the screen should appear like the one below.</p><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgevpkTDhdb7aRMwauzv9qq6cVF21WMoRnBqceH9ln4_zMIxgDMQZtbA0L9To-rEaU1gNZOIj4l6yS3vSl5ksG4qwmkKIiUUCdF3XiGrUjKnbC3L5KQNOLqMqvYFw-VvZpk1ixdjr0mbhM/s200/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298261358821488370" /><p class="MsoNormal"><!--StartFragment--> </p><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE2NJHjCTrKT-VI3whFpW0RVfrgM9VEDmgr5IRhqduzyClAmajoDyMl3bJ0ql07f166p6nUgK89tq_RTxgKXsK6FQf3WltVESSwIWuk24PaukURmsVzZ1Y9dMyJkZDfCx8Jj0_JyLccPM/s200/Picture+4.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298263540148113282" />Above: Measuring the width of the moon.<div>Below: Measuring the moon from top to bottom.</div><div><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkTlOgY0r_x_IJ7WIA-w-ee4r_L4p-IQefmXCejyDSPeZ8bceN-ug5gvHiGfew1SozK3ucmQ46m6uJW0zKaedZt1zQT-Vttx6TfEAcz6UN8hvua_BYA907xD65ZkjynJyPV91f5cf-JW0/s200/Picture+5.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298264741905822194" /><p class="MsoNormal">The students will work on this project over one month to track the progress. The students will fill in a chart daily listing the date, the amount of the moon that is showing, a sketch, and the phase of the moon. Using Google Earth students will be able to use technology to observe the appearance of the moon during each of the phases without having to go outside each night. This program is a great way to get students involved in their own learning and excited about our solar system! </p> <!--EndFragment--> <p></p> <!--EndFragment--><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-27507640630282082902009-01-22T16:41:00.000-08:002009-01-22T16:47:33.737-08:00TPACKI think it is so important for teachers to be trained in many areas so that they can better help their students to learn and reach their potential. TPACK is important because it is not only a knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content but it is also having the knowledge to be able to use these things and incorporate them together. Right now is the best time for us to learn and develop in each of these three areas so that when we enter the teaching field we will be ready! I really liked the science/math technologies that we used in class, they seem like some really great resources. I especially liked the microscope and the Stellarium program; they are things I hope to be able to utilize in the future.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-57351089418597789332009-01-13T16:43:00.000-08:002009-01-13T16:50:53.187-08:00Week 2RSS makes everything easier and more convenient, it will be great to have everything updated so that I won't have to search for new info. Delicious will be super helpful to be able to keep a lot of resources in one place also it will be nice to be able to look at other people's bookmarks to get more resources!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6849578986185782605.post-38699317891807606552009-01-06T16:31:00.000-08:002009-01-22T16:47:08.867-08:00This is my first blog!
